As a 30 yr old Black Male in America I've seen my fair share of ups and downs. I consider myself to be lucky. A high school
diploma, Associates Degree in Culinary Arts, and Veteran of the
U.S. Army, I still find it hard to grasp the idea that many of my
black brothaz are waisting their lives tryin to live up to the
mainstream medias image of gold chains, expensive lavish
lifestyles portrayed to be the only way a Black Man can survive
in America.
I've never been the type of Black American who setteld for less.
Growing up in a single parent home wasn't easy. I often found
myself wondering where would my life lead and if I truly had a
say so in how I lived my life.
Sometimes I think not having my father be there for me at a
young age would cause me to end up either in jail, living on the
streets, or dead. It was the love and guidance of a Strong
Black Mother that helped me realize that being Black In
America was going to be a struggle, but one I could win!
