Is Reverse Marketing Productive?

'I'm Interested In Your Business.'

At first glance whether you read this in the subject line in your email inbox, message board forum inbox or where ever you promote, you think, wow this is a prospect!

Most times this person will leave you their contact information. IF you have a phone number you call, if by email you respond.

Usually my responses have been a gathering of information about my business opportunity, and asking them questions on what they are looking for.

Then, the response.

'Your Business sounds interesting...' and then goes their business opportunity, or a referral to a site that they market where 'you can promote your business with other professionals'

So let's take a look at this sentence

I'm Interested in YOUR business

or

I'm interested in your BUSINESS.

They meant the latter. See the difference?

Here is one of many definitions of reverse marketing:

"Reverse marketing is the concept of making potential customers seek you out instead of the other way around. There are many approaches to this..."

Well in essence that's what ends up happening, but the tactic (if you would call it that) can be misleading.

So, this is a form of Reverse Marketing that you've experienced? Someone acts interested in your opportunity, you respond and then they start to share their business, thinking you may need their product or services.
Some think of it as a less attractive term, called Bait and Switch. Others see it as a form of relationship marketing, Kind of like 'You share yours and I'll share mine.' So is it productive?

It depends on the person. In network marketing there are thousands upon thousands of business people networking with each other. Everyone wants everyone to join their business. I personally don't take offense to it, but what I do take offense to is the way they present it. I'd prefer someone to be up front from the beginning.

The next time someone sends a message saying they are interested in your business, keep an open mind. Collect their information because you never know when you may network with them again, when you may need their product or service, or when they may need yours.

Until next time,
