Don't Let A Job Loss or Job Cuts Get To You!
As I did my daily information gathering, I ran across several articles talking about Job Loss, Job Cuts, the U.S. economy and unemployment rates.

It tugs at my heart when I hear employers cut 79,000 jobs in June 2008 or when companies are trying to cut back on costs and view employees as an expense. Trust me I understand it's "just business" but lives are at stake!

Then I run across an article talking about how GM will need 15 billion dollars to cover their expenses for the next two years or they may have to file for bankruptcy.

To top it off, I read that Starbucks will close 600 stores and cut approximately 12,000 jobs starting now and through March 2009. Can someone say, "oversaturation!" I'm not a coffee drinker and never got the Starbucks thing but knew when discretionary income get cut those extras will go first. :)

I won't even touch the high gas prices and how that will affect people.

All of this makes me wonder how many people are striving to live the American Dream. Not that it is bad but can everyone afford to live the dream that is perpetuated on TV? Is the Amercian Dream to work for a company, give your all and get laid off when they make mistakes, take unecessary risks or the economy goes bad?

Here's what I feel the Amercian Dream is...

"You must do what you are instructed to do by God and allow Him to direct your feet. You must become the company. You must market your knowledge, skills and talents to companies that want and need it. You must find ways to duplicate what you know and get it to as many people as possible that want it with the least amount of effort."
I never said it would be easy. But wouldn' t you feel a little more comfortable knowing that you control what you do and how much you earn? Wouldn't you want to have favor with business people?

There is a catch though...

....you might not have the consistency in paychecks like you would with a job. Oh, it will come eventually, but initially it may be a little rough.

Sure a job loss is not good! Job cuts are inevitable for many companies and the U.S. economy may get worse. However, in my20+ years of working I've noticed one thing...

...it is the employees who generally keep the businesses running! They are assets not expenses. One idea, one concept from one person can literally transform a company that is nearing bankruptcy.

Heck, just take a look at 3M and see the products their employees came up with that helps the company maintain a positive cash flow. Plus, they are one of  Fortune's 2008 Most Admired Companies.

At the end of the day, I am learning more and more that as I serve my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ things just work out for me no matter how bad it may look in the natural.

I've lost a job before, got cut, been unemployed for over a year, homeless and everything else you can think of...

...yet, I am still here and it is through His grace and mercy!

Identify what you should really be doing with your life and do it. You are not your job. Your job should not be your life and your main focus. If you have problems with that last statement then you may have a hard time making the shift from employee to employer!

As far as I am concerned, job loss, job cuts and the U.S. economy will not affect me in the same ways as it may you. I am focused on spiritual things which the natural eyes don't seem to understand.

But what do I know right? Time will tell!

Until next time!
