My Legal Rights: Consumer Protection through Regular Legal Advice Most of us don’t anticipate needing a lawyer’s services because we do our best to stay out of trouble. While some of us have learned through experience that trouble has a funny way of finding everyday people despite their best efforts, most of us still just wait for it to come. That’s why most people are left completely vulnerable and unprepared when legal trouble arises. Nevertheless, most of us tempt fate and figure that we can forego the couple of pennies it takes to get legal insurance, and we try to live without it. However, besides legal insurance coverage for troubling times, there is another benefit of having a legal team on your side that many of us wouldn’t live without if we knew how great it was. I’m talking about consumer protection. There are two times in life when you absolutely need to talk to a lawyer: when your liberties are at stake, and when your money is at stake. Where money is spent, legal issues always exist. Furthermore, there are lots of everyday circumstances in which your rights as a consumer are blatantly violated or at least ignored, and if you knew what to do, you could save some face and some green. The problem is, however, that, under normal circumstances, it is too time consuming and/or expensive to chase down these consumer causes. Too often consumers just let things go because their worthy causes would simply cost too much to pursue. With legal insurance, however, it’s not only possible, it’s cost effective. When I don’t get what I pay for, when I am not treated fairly, or when I just have a question about the possibility of a contract or transaction being unfair, I can call my law firm and get advice from a lawyer specializing in consumer issues to tell me everything I need to know about the situation. I don’t worry about keeping track of the time, either, because with my legal insurance plan, the billable hour does not apply. I have an unlimited phone consultation benefit. UNLIMITED. I can call them every day with a new question or twelve about any obscure legal topic I wish, if I am so inclined. Furthermore, I don’t sign any contracts without getting them reviewed first – that means cell phone contracts, leases, NOTHING. I am all about consumer protection now that such protection is actually affordable. So, through regular legal advice, I avoid certain pitfalls and can deal with trouble head on when it rears its ugly head. I know more about my rights as a consumer now, and anything I don’t know I can find out with one phone call. I am more informed, I am more empowered, and when I tell someone, “I’m going to call my lawyer!” I’m not just blowing smoke.
